Bleach and destroy

(click the image larger to view details..)

Spring 2009 collections had 80´s styled denim that was torn, destroyed and bleached. Nothing really "new" but to me it still looked fresh and intresting. My kind of denim! Think less much Samantha Fox, but more Adam Ant rock-chic. Balmain had teamed the denims up with decorative officer´s jackets and Meadham Kirchhoff with loose shirts and blazers. I seriously need to get my hands on some bleach, sand paper and cheece grinders... All the tips and instructions I need should be found from my Denim Design Lab book by Brian Robbins. I think I can handle the sanding and grinding, but bleach is difficult and requires some testing. I´ll let you know when I have something done!

Junkhouse Dollyard Designs

Junkhouse Dollyard Designs is a clothing customizing label by Kathryn Wilson I have fund recently. Based in Tokyo Japan, she uses thrifted clothing to make her re-styled fashions. I love her ability to change the proportions of the original garment and combile different materials and colors. Junkhouse Dollyard Designs is available at Etsy and all the collections can be viewed from her website. She also has a kick-ass photo gallery.

In progress Trashion Xmass party dress

This thrifted 60´s dress has been hanging in my closet for two years. The neckties I´ve had for about a year. My office´s Christmass party is on Friday and i had nothing to wear. I never go out and buy something in this sort of situation, but I do think creatively in a panic. :) Inspired by the stylish tv-series Mad Men, I decided to restyle this old dress with a detachable necktie extravaganza (attached with safetypins). This will look great with some fishnets, high heels, satin gloves and screaming red lipstick. It is still far from finished, but I´m sure to get it done by Friday.

To see how the neckties for the shoulder piece is constructed, go to my Tie Feathers tutorial.

Inspiration from Helena Hörstedt

You´ve propably heard about and seen ads the Comme des Garçons for H&M collection. As much as I adore the mentioned fashion house, I´ll pass this one. Instead I stumbled upon Helena Hörstetd´s work. She has a somewhat similar neo-victorian designstyle and a fascination for pleats and black. I´m especially fond of that harlequin pleated cape. Again this is an another old sewing technique (frequently used in the 70´s) that should be re-invented. I love how Helena has worked it and this will go on my to-do list. These pieces are timeless and the form would look great made from secondhand leather clothes (also in multicolor), woollen men´s suits, neckties or household textiles.

VHS tape trashion gift wrapping

The holiday season is upon us soon and gift and gift wrapping ideas need to be concidered. Why not tie your presents up with VHS or cassette tape this year. It´s fashionably black, shiny and you can wrap all gifts from one roll. It can also be curled up like regular gift ribbon, just be a bit more easy on the tape so you don´t brake. You know it´s as much about the packaging as it is about the gift itself. Department store logo-gift wrapping just has no personality...

Trashion Film glamour by Petteri Hemmilä

Finnish fashion designer Petteri Hemmilä surprised me today with some lovely pictures of a top and a dress sewed from filmtape. How cool are these! Yet an another sewable material that can be used in making fashion. These remind me of the works of my trashion idol Mr. Marting Margiela. I´m so looking forward so seeing this project live.

Are you a fashionista? An eco fashionista?

MTV is casting a new television series sort of Project Runway-esque that will bring a group of people to New York City to work directly with a world-renowned fashion designer. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be intimately involved in the fashion business, to meet and work with a team of fashion experts, and to participate in the creation of a fashion line.

THEY ARE LOOKING FOR: creative, outgoing, self-confident, and TALENTED people who don't yet have on-the job experience but who are PASSIONATE about fashion, design, sewing, sketching, graphic art, or any other aspect of the fashion business. Not just looking for fashionistas or trendspotters; looking for creative thinkers who know how to market, merchandise, and sell the line. They would like to speak to folks who are studying fashion, design, marketing, business, or a related field. MTV is also interested in anyone who may not have any formal training, but who has a passion for fashion and an unstoppable desire to change their life. At the end of their series, one lucky person will be rewarded with the opportunity of a lifetime.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY.
MTV Casting Call. If you want to learn more, or if you know anyone who would be perfect for this show, please e-mail them at mtvfashioncasting@gmail.com.
