OutsaPop Trashion clothes hanger tutorial

For the Jan-Feb issue of MissMix magazine OutIN Palsta I made a tutorial for celebrity photo and cardboard clothes hangers. We all have our idols and style icons, and now you can have them wearing your clothes. I sure love to see Johnny Depp wearing my shredded Marimekko tees. I bet these kind of hangers look way better and more attactive also at craft fair booths (and even indie clothing shops) than cheap basic hangers! Here´s how these are done.



YOU´LL NEED / TARVIKKEET:
celebrity magazine clippings / friend photos
copymachine
Spray Mount photo sprayglue (15 hanger = 1 can)
carpet knife
scissors
marker and pencil
highlight markers

INSTRUCTIONS:  / TYÖVAIHEET:

STEP 1.
Find photos of your friends or celebrity magazine clippings. Front face shots only, sizing minimum 8 x 8 cm (3 x 3 inches). Printed online photos don´t do for this project as their resolution is not high enough.

VAIHE 1.
Etsi lehdistä kasvokuvia, jotka on kuvattu edestä. Kuvat voivat olla myös valokuvia sinusta ja ystävistäsi. Niiden olisi hyvä olla vähintään 8x8cm kokoisia. Netistä tulostetut kuvat eivät tähän projektiin oikein käy sillä niiden resoluutio ei riitä suurentamiseen.



STEP 2. Cut the background out. Enlarge photos first to A4 and then to A3 with a copymachine. Try to get the head as natural size as possible. Shoulders should almost fit paper. The final copy ratio in these photos was about 350-400% depending on the original image size.

VAIHE 2. Leikkaa tausta pois. Suurenna kasvokuvat kopiokoneella ensin A4 ja sitten A3-kokoiseksi niin että pää on mahdollisimman luonnollisen kokoinen, mutta että olkapäät mahtuvat malkein kuvaan. Kopiosuhde näissä oli n. 350-400 % alkuperäisestä kuvasta.



STEP 3.
Cut the cardboard slightly wider and much taller than your photocopy. Spray both surfaces and glue on the image, as close to the top as possible.

VAIHE 3.
Leikkaa pahvilaatikosta A3:sta pidempi ja leveämpi pala ja liimaa kuva valokuvaspraymaalilla pahville, mahdollisimman yläreunaan.



STEP 4.
Cut out the extra cardboard over the head and shoulders. The bottom can stay as it is as it will be hidden inside the garment. When done, cut shoulders rounder.

VAIHE 4.
Leikkaa pahvin reunat pois aloittaen olkapäistä. Pyöristä olkapäät. Kuvan alareunan voi jättää leikkaamatta koska se jää vaatteen sisälle.



STEP 5.
Clean up the edges from both sides with scissors.

VAIHE 5.
Siisti pahvin reunat saksilla molemmilta puolilta.



STEP 6.
Draw the hanger hook first with a pencil. Start by scetching the hole in the middle of the forehead so that the hanger will be in balance. Check that the hanger hook opening is big enough to fit the clothng rack before cutting. Mark and cut with a carpet knife.

VAIHE 6.
Hahmottele henkarin koukun kaari ensin lyijykynällä ja sitten tussilla. Henkarin keskiosan tulisi ulottua keskelle otsaa jotta henkari roikkuu mahdollisimman suorassa. Tarkista että henkarin aukko on niin suuri että se mahtuu vaaterekillesi.



STEP 7.
The hanger hook is easier to cut out if you first cut it from the right side and than from the back side. After the first one is done you can use it as a stencil for the following hangers.

VAIHE 7.
Koukun keskiosa on helpompi saada irti henkarista, jos leikkaat kaaren ensin oikealta ja sitten alapuolelta. Seuraavien henkareiden koukkukaaret voit jäljentää käyttämällä ensimmäistä henkaria mallina.



STEP 8.
Don´t worry if the edge does not come out perfectly finished and even! This is trashion, not rocket science..

VAIHE 8.
Ei haittaa vaika henkarin reuna jäisi hieman epätasaiseksi.




STEP 9.
Use highlight markers for makeup.

VAIHE 9.
Voit halutetssasi lisätä henkareihin väriä aleviivaustusseilla.
