It seems that temporarily this blog will concentrate on DIY ideas for home decor. Sorry about that. I will post a bout fashion in the upcoming days. Meanwhile here are some possibilities for trashion shelf solutions to my new flat..? Multiples anyone? ..Ok. I promise to stop now. Zip. Top photo: Thomas Wold.

  8. "Shopping by color", be careful with that! :) I find it easier to look at the form, size and DIYability first and them the color. Most things, especially furniture, can be painted or colored to match.

    But the second table stack is my favorite too as it covers the entire wall (bigger looks more like artwork) and support beams can be attached to the sidewalls directly. I´d propably paint mine blood red (if I want it to stand out, even with loads of stuff on it) or gray, white or black if I want to blend it more to the background.

    A good thing would be to pick a color from something else from your room, like curtains, sofa or wallpaper so it matches the decor perfectly. And always have a Pantone color sample with you when you go out shopping for paints (or furniture and fabrics)!! Colors look very different in different lighting and they are never 100% what you remember them to be. Not even black or white. They also have hundreds of hues...

  9. I also love the fact with the first two "collage table shelfs" that all the tables used in them are from complitely different decor eras! The color being the combining factor has an ability to do that. You can look up furniture from secondhand office furniture shops (which are very underrated in my opinion) and recycle centers. Also the current condition of the furniture can be a bit damaged as some corners and tablefeet will be cut out. Plus the whole thing will get a new finish anyway.

    I love this shelf more and more every time I check back to this post!

  13. Love the stacked crates! Such a nautical or cottage feel to it. Also, the glass china cabinet as a shoe closet!?? That is just totally awesome. I'm always in need of room to store things, and wish to do so in a stylish yet thrifted/frugal way. These's are wonderful suggestions.

  14. I like the idea of keeping your shoes in a (glass door) cupboard as then they become more of an display for all your beautiful shoes, bags and other pretty accessories. Much better than hiding them all in the bedroom closets or dressing room. This way you also remeber better what you have. If the cupboard has drawers in the bottom, you can use them to hide sneakers and all the ugly ones there. :P

  16. I´ve seen them used as decor and sometimes sold in FLOWER SHOPS! About 35 euro a piece. Reasonably priced I think since they are difficult to find.. Also go and ask your locar wine store (Alko) for wine crates. They are usually made from wood and quite beautiful, smaller though. If the crate is not the color you like, you can always paint or stain them to match your other furniture. In the US I would imagine also bigger thrift/vintage furniture stores, vegetable stores ect. have these.

    Note that you have to buy them all at the same time so you cam be sure they match and can be stacked. If the boxes don´t stack well, I´d nail them together.

  17. Oh, and I would imagine these are not really that difficult to make yourself. If you know what to do with a saw and some other carpenters powertools... The design is really quite simple and does not have to be made with millimeter accuracy. It´s a shelf, not a house :P

  18. Did you notice that the purple collage shelf is actually made from only 4 coffee tables (and 2 drawers)?! The tables are sawn from the middle so both sides can be used in the design! Genious.

  19. recycling can be so lovely! the last picture reminds me of my shoe closet: my room came with an ugly brown closet with glass doors. i started to like it once i had put my shoes in there.

  20. i LOVE LOVE LOVE the shoe idea! i currently have my shoes on display on a built in the wall book shelf (i consider my shoes beautiful pieces of art as well as fabulous feet accessories), but I've quickly begun to run outta room - any thoughts on where i could find some cheap materials to make a diy one of my own???

  31. That 1st idea is absolutely amazing! I wana redecorate my studio but i haven't had any good ideas to make it. Im gona have a good look around charity shops, pile on the small tabes and just paint them on the same purple as the second pic!! Do you know where you've found these pics?? I love this sort of quircky style!! Thanks for Sharing
