Scissors + beads and in 15 minutes you could also have one. If you want more tassles, sew an additional layer ot 2-3 of jersey in the back so you´ll have more fabric to cut. Maybe sew a layer of lace underneath.. Just throwing ideas here.

Uusi Musta - Interview

Uusi Musta, a Finnish ecological lifestyle radio program interviewed me a few weeks ago for their blog. It is out now (text in Finnish only.. sorry). I was very happy to get a call from them as I think Uusi Musta is one of the best, or even the best eco/green living programs in Finland! They cover everything about current topics to food, health, cosmetics and style. If you´re not a reader yet, I recommend you check them out. The program is made by three girls, Noora Shingler (the author of Kemikaalicoctail blog which is also one of m favorites!), Katja Lahti and Viivi Lehtonen, who really show that being eco is easy and fun. Other media and jornalists shuld take their example on how to cover eco issues in their magazines, newspapers and programs. Thanks again for the feature guys!!

Well, the recycle fair in Helsinki last weekened is over. Had loads of fun, talked to hundreds of people and got filmed in a recycle programme for Chinese tv! :) As promised I will post the unsold items to my Etsy shop this weekend. Shredded tees are unisex and you get them cheaper from me than for example OAK...

My shredded tee (photo below) are also made from secondhand so they are sustainable fashion. The color pallette is kinda dull, but I´ve always been a friend of gray shades. Best friends with black. Stay tuned for updates!!

She is so gorgeous. The sheer tube bead/pearl necklaces are a beautiful DIY project and look great with a sharp jacket, but just remember to make more than one. Mass is fashion, so 4-5 strands sounds better. And that maxi skirt with a small train. Worn with a leather jacket and hoodie. Must get that for summer... Made from black secondhand band t-shirts or other jersey garments. The pattern you can take from any evening gown and cut the pattern pieces to smaller ones, so they can be cut fron the t-shirts. Remember to number the pattern pices before cutting. Jersey is often elastic, so you can make the skirt in a size or two smaller.

DIY Crocheted scrunchies

I thought about changing the title to something complitely different as some people still have strong opinions against scrunchies. Yeah, the fabric version has not been in style in 15 years, but you must admit they were fast and fun to make from fabric scraps. As our mission at OutsaPop Trashion is to combine sustainability, DIY and fashionability, I thought twice before posting this. But you have to admit they are quite handy. Maize In Montana posted a tutorial on how to crochet elastic hair bands by using wool thread leftovers. An easy (if you can crochet), small project to keep your hands buzy.

Refashioned dog sweater

I´ve never been much of a dog or cat person as I´ve always had bunnies as pets. But I can´t dress a bunny up. Or I could, but it just would not be sane... But dogs can be dressed! Check out Kris' blog Resweater for a tutorial in how to make a refashioned wool  knit for mans best friend. Great as a gift or for sale to craft fairs. There´s also plenty of other sweater craft and refashion ideas and how-tos there.

DIY trend - leather paillettes

I´ve seen black leather sequinned clothes online in so many places in the last fall and winter, that I supposed it can officially be called a DIY micro trend that will become a classic. I´d choose an ugly but  soft secondhand 80´s leather jacket to cut up for material. they usually cost less and have more material than newer jackets. It takes a bit of time to cut the leather discs/paillettes, and sew them on, but it is worth the trouble. You can also use leather glue as I did on my leather scale dress. Photos via phosphene fashion.

OutsaPop Trashion at Kierrätystehdas

This weekend you can find me at Kaapelitehdas recycle event Kierrätystehdas. We have a booth there with my friend Anne who makes bags from recycled materials under the label Garbagebag. So if you´re in Helsinki, take a stroll down to the harbour and enjoy an afternoon with trashion. The fair is free admission and is open Sathurday-Sunday kl 10-17. I´ll be selling there some freshly unravelled army tees, Marimekko stripe shirts and band t-shirts, plus some OutsaPop oldies goldies, like lego bowties and earrings (shoppers note, the event is cash only). I will also have some of my other trashion fashions at display for viewing. Come over for a chat about trashion and I´ll show you personally how the t-shirt shredding is done, no charge. :)

Style Hurricane

Some things you just know make great DIY projects when you see them. Alexander Wang zipper Wayfarers are one. Estonian DIY chick Anni from Style Hurricane made her own and they are looking pretty damn nice. I also love her take on the ear cuff trend.

When customers are happy, I´m happy.

Going through my mail box about stuff that I should have posted about ages ago.. Lana from Dubai sent me a few photos of her wearing my necklace. She was one of my first international zipper necklace customers back in 2008 and it looks great on her! I cannot say how nice it was for me to recieve these. Creating something for someone you´ve never met or seen before is always a challenge. After seeing the photos and her smile I knew I had done good.

DIY trend - kneepads

What´s the next thing is DIY accessories? Kneepads. Yeah.. at first I thought NO too, but after seeing these pop up all over fashion blogs in the past month in leggins, hosiery and as separate accessories, they are starting to grow on me. And they can´t be bad since Angie from Norwegian Wood is making them. The DIY/trashion version would of course be to use shoulder pads.

Rouge+Noir

Rouge et Noir makes shredded tees and jersey dresses. One might think that since we´ve seen them for two years now this DIY trend would be long gone, but it´s still here as classics tend to stick around. Much like shirt skirts and studd and zipper decorated accessories. I´m especially into the maxi long dress versions of them as they´d look great with combat boots, a pair of leggins or skinny jeans.
